About Sasha Steensen
As the first guest of the new Alumni Reading Series, Black Mountain Institute is delighted to welcome a graduate of the inaugural class of the UNLV Creative Writing Program, poet Sasha Steensen. Steensen earned her MFA at UNLV in 2000 before going on to receive a PhD in poetics from SUNY-Buffalo. She is the author of three books of poetry, House of Deer, The Method, and A Magic Book, which won the Alberta duPont Bonsal Prize, and several chapbooks, including A History of the Human Family and The Future of an Illusion. Her essays and poems have appeared in Jubilat, The Laurel Review, Black Warrior Review, Boston Review, and Denver Quarterly, among others. She teaches creative writing at Colorado State University, where she serves as a poetry editor for Colorado Review.
